Woman murders husband, stages heart attack drama; arrested
CHENNAI: A 36-year-old woman, who murdered her husband and staged a drama claiming that he died due to a heart attack, was arrested near Maduranthagam on Sunday.
The deceased was identified Vivek (41) of Nelvaipalaiyam in Maduranthagam, a wage worker. He was married to Jagadeshwari and the couple has two children. Police said Jagadeshwari was in a relationship with Ekambaram (45), a married man from the same locality.
Eakambaram used to stay in Chennai for work during the weekdays and would visit Maduranthagam on weekends. After coming to know about their relationship, Vivek warned both of them. The couple also used to quarrel often about the affair.
On Saturday early morning, the neighbours were woken up by Jagadeshwari’s loud screams. When they rushed to their home, she told the neighbours that Vivek suffered a heart attack in his sleep and died. She added that he had complained of chest pain at night.
Not suspecting anything amiss, Vivek’s relatives started making arrangements for his funeral. However, while performing final rites in the evening, one of his relatives noticed a strange mark on Vivek’s neck and informed the Anaicut police station. The police team that visited the spot registered a case of suspicious death and sent the body for post-mortem examination to the Chengalpattu GH.
When grilled by the police on Sunday, Jagadeshwari admitted that she killed her husband by strangling him using a dupatta early on Saturday morning. Vivek was sleeping after consuming liquor at the time, making it easier for her to murder him. The police arrested Jagadeshwari and a search is on to nab Ekambaram who is absconding.
