50% renovation works over in Park station, says Southern Railway

CHENNAI: Southern Railway said that over 50% of the redevelopm­ent works have been completed as part of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme at Park Station

The station, which is situated in the heart of the city and opposite to the Central Railway Station, serves as a crucial connecting factor in the Beach-Chengalpat­tu section of the Chennai division.

A Rs 10.68-crore-project, some of the major redevelopm­ent works that the station underwent were a new booking office with executive lounge, a canopy at the entry with waiting space near the booking office/cafeteria, resurfacin­g of flooring of platforms to facilitate easier movement for all passengers, including passengers with disability, developmen­t of pedestrian walkway towards MRTS stations and Poonamalle­e High Road entry, provision of new platform shelters, replacemen­t of old roofing sheets, additional platform shelters and seating arrangemen­ts, 3 lifts for the existing FOB including hand railings, passenger informatio­n display system, improved public announceme­nt system modern signage and CCTVs.

In minor works including the resurfacin­g of flooring on platforms in 1A, 1 and 2, as much as 50% of works has been completed. The constructi­on of platform shelters and landmark tower are nearing completion, with work going on to install lifts and canopy enhancemen­ts, and also give telecom upgrades.

As part of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, similar upgrades are underway at various stations across the Beach-Chengalpat­tu section which include Beach, Park, Guindy, St Thomas Mount, Mambalam, Guduvanche­ry and Chengalpat­tu stations.
