WWhat is it? The best-selling vehicle in the country today, is a scooter. And when it comes to scooter sales, TVS has grabbed the second spot in July, putting Hero MotoCorp down by a step, thanks to a well-rounded line-up which includes Scooty, Wego and Jupiter. Our subject today is the Wego, which had received minor updates in February when BS-IV was about to get implemented. A dual-tone seat, dual-tone paint schemes, auto headlamp on and a 1A USB port were added to the package. And TVS has now gone ahead and equipped the Wego with ‘sync brakes’. Does it make the package better?

Does it work? Yes. Both the brakes are applied even if the rider applies only the rear brake. And you can even feel the front brake lever pull itself when you are applying the rear brake. The system is not new and Honda and Hero have already got it on their scooters. However, TVS’ system feels more effective, after having ridden both my dad’s Activa and Wego, back to back. The braking is extremely effective and the scooter ends up staying on both the wheels.

Fun to ride? The Wego feels extremely nimble thanks to its fine weight distribution. Although, it does not feel as sprightly as the Activa, it has enough grunt to keep you going at city speeds. However, it easily trumps the Activa when it comes to handling. It is actually fun to lean into corners. Straight line stability takes a backseat if you are facing potholes at high speeds. But nothing unpredictable of any sort.

Value?

At ` 51,084 (ex-showroom Delhi), the Wego is more expensive than the Activa 4G by a mere ` 200. But you end up with better convenience features such as the external fuel filler cap, glowing ignition switch, ‘e-z’ main stand (which really works), all digital instrument cluster and service indicator. It is also quite nimble and fuel efficient (50kmpl in city conditions). What is even better is its design, which appeals to both the sexes. Take a test ride before you get some other scooter.
