Back in the 1970s, Belgian F1 star (and subsequent six-time Le Mans winner) Jacky Ickx was among a group of drivers backed by Heuer, which was then the leading watch

brand in motorsport sponsorship. Ickx even had a Heuer watch named after him.

But for the past 25 years or so he has been a Chopard man, having become close friends with brand boss and fellow petrolhead Karl-Friedrich Scheufele as a result of driving with him in a dozen Mille Miglias. In fact, Ickx owns an example of every Chopard Mille Miglia watch ever made.

When I met up with him at Baselworld in March, he was sporting the 2014 model – worn over the top of his cuff, à la the late Fiat boss, Gianni Agnelli.
