The champ was already leading the roost in the third round of the MRF challenge at Yas Marina circuit

THE FINAL ROUND OF the MRF challenge concluded at MMRT in Chennai on February 4 witnessing Felipe Drugovich, the 17-year-old Brazilian bag the championsh­ip title. Drugovich won the final two races which gave him 10 wins for the season out of a total 16 races. Race 3 and race 4 saw Presley Martono and Rinus van Kalmthout finish on the podium. Martono finished second in the championsh­ip with 254 points, 7 points ahead of Kalmthout who scored 247 points to secure third in the championsh­ip. Drugovich won the championsh­ip title with a dominating lead, finishing with 333 points.

The final race of the season saw Van Kalmthout start on pole alongside Drugovich. van Kalmthout got bogged down at the start, allowing Drugovich to pull ahead and lead into the first corner with Martono moving up to second position. Once in the lead, the Brazilian pulled away to finish the race with a comfortabl­e winning margin.

Even though Martono didn’t finish first, the Indonesian, put in some very quick lap times, which included the fastest ever lap at MMRT at 1:29:538. Drugovich sealed the championsh­ip in the second race, moving ahead with 283 points against the 219 points tally of Van Kalmthout and 212 points for Martono.

Drugovich was leading the championsh­ip from the third race weekend, that was held at the Yas Marina circuit, Abu Dhabi in December, 2017 with a tally of 260 points, while Martono was second at 174 points and Kalmthout and Falchero were tied at 165 points for the third position. ⌧
