What is it?

WNot confusing anymore, let me tell you that. Since 2004, the Discover series has had variants like 100 DTS-Si, 100M, 100T, 125T, 125ST and 150 DTS-i, and many others. Confused? Customers were too, which made them move on to different manufacturers. But this time, Bajaj Auto is back with a game plan. No ST, no M, no more abbreviations. It’s just down to two models for now. The Discover 110 and 125.

All new?

Well, the 115.5cc air-cooled single is, but not much else. The single downtube frame continues. And so does the silhouette of the earlier Discovers. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. The Discover always was quite the handsome commuter. Now with LED DRLs, sharply angled flyscreen and web-inspired alloys, it looks properly modern.

Fun to ride?

Torque was the name of the game. Bajaj Auto says that this is a new long stroke engine with best-in-class torque of 9.81Nm. And that number translates very well within the city. The motorcycle could be easily chugged in top gear at 25kmph and climb inclinations at 30kmph. Refinement was another thing to take note of. Vibrations only kicked in after 7000rpm, well beyond normal commuting practices. Another highlight was the ride quality. The 140mm telescopic forks and the 120mm gas-filled twin shocks work in tandem with the cushioned seat resulting in a smooth, bump-free ride.

So all good?

Not really. I did find a few false neutrals, trying to slot first. Another let down were the brakes The front drum felt too spongy and the rear locked too easily. That a disc variant is not available even as an option, is disappointing.

Efficient?

An ARAI certified fuel efficiency figure of 76.3kmpl coupled with an 8-litre fuel tank gives it a claimed range of 610km. Don’t expect these numbers in the real world though.

Pricing?

Bajaj Auto has a great commuter in its arsenal, with the Discover 110. And priced at just `50,176 the motorcycle is sure to attract a lot of buyers.
