Eclectic Eletre
The Eletre is Norfolk's first-ever five-door vehicle. It is also the first-ever Lotus that will be built outside of the UK
LOTUS CLAIMS THE ELETRE CAN SPRINT TO A 100KMPH IN UNDER 3 SECONDS
THE UNTHINKABLE HAS HAPPENED. British sports car maker Lotus has stepped into the SUV game and unveiled its first-ever electric vehicle. Dubbed the ‘Eletre’, which means ‘coming to life’ in Hungarian, this high-performance luxury SUV is based on Lotus’ all-new Electric Premium Architecture (EPA).
The Eletre has striking elements that are inspired by its siblings, the Evija and Emira. It has a long wheelbase, coupe-like sloping roof and very short front and rear overhangs. It gets a pair of very sleek LED headlights at the front and a very cool looking full-width LED light bar at the rear. The Eletre is unlike any other Lotus of yore. It is awash with advanced technologies, including the world’s first deployable LIDAR system. At the centre of its dash, is a 15.1-inch OLED touchscreen flanked by a pair of super slim screens displaying information to the driver and passenger.
While Lotus hasn’t given away full specifications of the Eletre yet, they’ve confirmed that its initial model will have 592bhp and all-wheel-drive courtesy of a motor on each axle. The Eletre will house a 100kWh+ battery, which supports 350kW fast charging, that will promise 400km range addition in just 20 minutes. A WLTPclaimed range of 600km is also on the charts. Moreover, Lotus claims that the Eletre can do 0-100kmph in under 3 seconds and up to a top speed of 260kmph.
The Eletre is the first of the planned four EVs Lotus plans to introduce by 2025. It says the EPA platform is easily adaptable to accommodate different battery sizes, motors and driving tech. So what can we expect next? A mid-size sport ute? A performance sedan? An electric sports car? Only time will tell! ⌧
