Harper's Bazaar (India)

THREE TIMES LUCKY

Bazaar’s all GROWN UP, so welcome to an ANNIVERSARY ISSUE that celebrates the Grandista in you

-

Wow! I just cannot believe it has been three fabulous years of Harper’s Bazaar India. Thanks to our TALL size, this issue really is grandly fabulous. Every year just goes by quicker and quicker, and we are just getting grander and grander. In fact, for fashion in India this year there is lots to celebrate—we started the year with Ashish N Soni’s 20th-anniversary retrospective, and he is not alone; there are 19 Indian designers who’re also celebrating milestones. So we decided to make this the anniversary of all anniversary issues and rejoice with them in our ‘Let’s Party’ fashion story. And it was while discussing this shoot that we decided to call this third anniversary ‘The Grand Issue’. We showcase the best of spring in our ‘Runway Report’, and in fashion in ‘The New Spring Spells’ fashion shoot. We celebrate that Grand Space, the Internet— which is exploding with fashion blogs, shopping sites, and designers on Twitter! We also tell you the grandest hidden shopping secrets of India—and look out for Grand style tips throughout the issue, be it Madhuri Dixit’s beauty tip or Tarun Tahiliani’s secrets of living life grandly. This issue tells you all you need to know to be a true Grandista, and live life in true style! In Personal Style, we look at two women from political families who look all set to become trendsetters: there is Praful Patel’s daughter Poorna and Renuka Chowdhury’s Tejuswini—both combine power with panache. Plus we have special openers for each section. They are all Grand, iconic moments in fashion especially chosen by the team—and all of them deserve to be framed.

On the cover is a woman who really is the ‘Grande Femme’ of cinema—vidya Balan. See her diversity in our fashion shoot where she sports four very different looks of the season. A true actor, she carries each look with aplomb. She is an actress who’s really doing it her way—and in her own style. From Parineeta to The Dirty Picture, she makes brave, bold moves in an elegant and quiet way. And we could not think of anyone better to grace our anniversary issue cover. A true pleasure to work with, here is a woman who truly deserves all the accolades she has been getting.

Also we look at two of the hottest beauty trends of the season—the midriff and long hair. This season sees the return of flaunting that toned tummy and also of locks that truly rock—both of these require a lot of hard work to get right and to maintain.

Finally, let me end with my Grand tip of the season—which is simply to enjoy fashion— with things that make you feel happy. Often you try something on and it gives you an instant smile—now that’s a real buy. At other times you may try something on and not feel that confident but think you must have it—that is a ‘now’ trend, and not a buy. The Grand buy is one that combines both of these.

Enjoy the issue. Happy reading! And live life like a Grandista!
