IN-FLIGHT

Travelling light, easy, and pretty is an art. Varun Rana shares expert tips on how to look EFFORTLESSLY GORGEOUS and yet be COMFORTABLE in long haul flights.

lipgloss), and a discreet wheelie,” he recounts. To those who know the discomfort of long-haul flights, this sounds like a perfect ensemble. But the rules are never fixed. “It boils down to balancing your sense of dressing with the realisation that you’re in a flight,” says Barve.

For example, most of us have, at one point in time or another, had to rush to an important engagement directly from the airport. And business attire, while suave in the boardroom, can be equally uncomfortable in a plane. How do you then balance your comfort without having to manage the feat of changing and doing your makeup in the cab en route to that meeting? The secret lies in being smart and knowing your wardrobe. Simply opt for a pair of Lycrainfused trousers; they never crumple. Go for a semi-fitted top that you can later layer with a light jacket and accessorise with a scarf. Carry a pair of heels in your tote, and wear your flats in-flight.

Designer Sanchita Ajjampur, in capacity as consultant to a slew of European labels, travels to and from that continent at a rate that would leave your average fashionista panting. But not her. She swears by what she terms ‘relaxed glamour’. “J Brand wide-legged denims or selfdesigned warm up pants with cuffed track bottoms, a cotton T-shirt, a Marni cashmere cardigan, a Lanvin travel kit and blanket, a washed leather biker jacket, and Logan or Zanotti sneakers with in-built wedge,” she lists. Enough labels in there to satisfy the most die-hard logo fans, but each with its defined purpose and nothing you’d call superfluous. And that’s the way it should be.
