What you Need, what you Want, and what really works

SHORTCUT TO SMOOTH HAIR

Curling, blow-drying, flat-ironing—there is a lot that you put your hair through. But while most of the time the damage isn’t apparent, dry, dehydrated strands reach out to absorb the moisture in the air during monsoons, resulting in frizz. Carolyn Newman, global stylist for L’Oréal Professionnel, suggests three dos to keep your hair in shape:

THE BRUSH MOVE: The best-set mane can look unpolished with fly-away hair. To keep your hair sleek, spritz hairspray on a large blusher brush and dust it down the length of your hair.

THE SLEEP WRAP: To make your blow-dry last longer, wrap the length of your hair around your head and slide a clip to keep it in place. If you have a fringe, comb it in front towards the forehead, sweep on the side, and clip just the end.

THE STYLE MUST: When all else fails, the humble pony is your best bet. Women with longer faces should wear their pony lower to add fullness to the face, whilst ladies with a rounder face must tie it high to make the face look angular.

COVER LEARNING

To make our cover girl gorgeous, makeup artist Vardan Nayak chose a statement lip. While he opted for a fuchsia for Alia Bhatt, he suggests choosing any bright, popping shade for fair complexions. For olive-toned ladies, he recommends dusty pinks, while for darker skins he advises deep plums and chocolates. A word of warning for dusky women: “Stay away from nudes as they

can wash you out.”

SUPPLEMENT OF THE MONTH: SAW PALMETTO

Derived from the rich purple berries of the Serenoa Repens, a common dwarf palm plant, saw palmetto supplements are rapidly gaining popularity as an alternative treatment for hair loss. “It inhibits the 5 alpha reductase enzyme that is responsible for hair loss,” says Dr Satish Bhatia, dermatologist and cosmetic surgeon. He recommends a 450 mg capsule* daily after breakfast for three months. *Consult your doctor before trying out a new supplement.

Lash extensions are the go-to option for many busy ladies. These ready-made versions look naturally long without the clumping effect you get from mascaras. Popular with Beyoncé, Heidi Klum, Jennifer Lopez, and Eva Longoria, the studio offers award-winning eyelash extensions in various lengths, colours, curvatures, and textures. Water-, sweat-, and oil-proof, these lashes cost ` 4,200 for the first set, and ` 1,900 for touch-ups.
