Police arrest another accused, claim victim’s account belied

ROHTAK: The police on Monday arrested another accused in the Rohtak Dalit girl gangrape case, not named by the victim, and claimed that the girl’s account of five men gangraping her twice has been belied by the statements given by him and his friend, who who was arrested on Sunday.

The accused arrested on Monday was identified as Parmod Kumar (30), a health worker at the chief medical officer office in Rohtak.

Police said Parmod revealed that he was introduced to the girl by his friend Sandeep Hooda on July 13. After a brief conversati­on at a city park, he took the girl to a hotel near the bus stand in his car. They were joined by Sandeep at the hotel after some time. Later, they dropped her at the Sukhpura Chowk in a drunken state.

The police said it also got hold of a CCTV footage in which the trio had been spotted in the hotel.

Sandeep had told police that he knew the girl before and was called by her to meet him on the date of the alleged incident. The girl and her family, however, maintained that she was abducted and raped for the second time by five men from Bhiwani, named by her in the FIR. The police had arrested three out of five accused, while the other two are on the run. HTC
