Search on for BSF constable on the run after stabbing colleague

JAMMU: Despite frantic efforts by Jammu and Kashmir police, the BSF constable who allegedly stabbed a colleague with a knife before fleeing with a light machine gun (LMG) and magazines of the victim in Akhnoor sector of Jammu district on Sunday morning, remains elusive.

Jammu SSP Sunil Gupta told HT that the search is on but the accused remains elusive.

“His mobile phone is switched off. He has not used his ATM card because he has no money in his account. We have alerted the Bihar police and Punjab police while policemen in civvies have also been deployed outside his house in Dharbhanga,” said Gupta.

The SSP said the police was looking into all clues to arrest him.

He, however, did not rule out the possibilit­ies of the accused having slipped outside the state.

The accused constable Rajeev Ranjan had allegedly stabbed Raghubir Singh at Beli Azmat post in Kanachak area of Akhnoor sector on Sunday morning.

The injured constable was admitted to government Medical College and Hospital (GMC), where he was stated to be out of danger. HTC
