PLAYS OF THE DAY

India were comprehensive although a ninth-wicket stand stretched the game

UMESH DISMISSES BRAVO IN FIRST OVER

This set the tone of the day. Had West Indies started the day without a hiccup, it could have been difficult to dislodge the overnight pair. But Umesh Yadav was more than up to the task. Four inswingers made Bravo think the next too would come towards him, only this one held its line and induced a thick edge off his bat. It flew to the right of Ajinkya Rahane standing at wide fourth slip and he did well to catch it.

ASHWIN GETS RID OF SAMUELS

The kind of dismissal we engineer in computer games, only this was real time. R Ashwin tossed up a loopy delivery that Marlon Samuels thought won’t hit his stumps since he had it adequately covered trying to reach the pitch of the ball with the full face of the bat. Only the ball landed just beyond him and turned enough to hit his stumps.

BISHOO, BRATHWAITE PROLONG INEVITABLE

Both had something to prove. After an embarrassing dismissal, Carlos Brathwaite was bent on showing he is better than that. Devendra Bishoo followed up his nightwatchman role with a performance that could see him promoted because of his patience. When the two came together, West Indies were out. Hence started a cat and mouse game with Indian spinners especially as both put on 95 runs for the ninth wicket.
