High court orders regularisation of Punjab Police Academy teachers
CHANDIGARH: The Punjab and Haryana high court has ordered regularisation of services of lecturers in Punjab Police Academy (PPA), Phillaur.
Three teachers had approached the court after the state government did not regularise their services after a policy decision in this regard in 2011 that those working on contractual basis in government departments for at least three years will be regularised. The petitioners were appointed between 2000 and 2004.
The government had argued that they joined their posts on contract after agreeing to the terms and conditions according to which they can’t claim regular appointment.
It was also argued that being contractual employees of the PPA, they were not entitled to regularisation as it was not covered under the scheme.
The HC bench of justice Jaishree Thakur, however, found that 19 district attorneys, who were regularised, were working in the same academy and were also performing teaching work like the petitioners. It also came to light that services of a similarly placed lecturer at the academy were regularised.
So, once the similarly situated persons have been granted the benefit under the said policy, the same benefit should have been extended to the petitioners the
