SPENDING AT WEDDINGS

Apropos the editorial “Don’t mute the band baaja’ (HT, Feb 17), it is welcome that MP Ranjeet Ranjan has introduced a private member’s Bill in Lok Sabha that seeks to put a limit on the number of guests to be invited and dishes to be served to check waste of money and food at weddings. In Punjab, the trend to splurge at weddings has become a nightmare for the bride’s family. The law against dowry was introduced five decades ago but it has not been implemented in letter and spirit. Before implementing such Acts, there is need to sensitise the masses. SK Khosla, Chandigarh
