VW to launch Tiguan and new Passat in 2017

Volkswagen Passenger Cars Sales India Pvt Ltd, the local arm of the German carmaker, will introduce the Tiguan sports utility vehicle (SUV) and a new version of the Passat sedan this year, the company said in a statement on Thursday. Expected in the second quarter, the Tiguan, a premium SUV, will compete with the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour, which are priced in the range of ₹25.92 lakh to ₹31.12 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Volkswagen will also bring the all new Passat, a premium sedan, in the second quarter of the current year. It will compete with the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord, among other models. The German carmaker has a less than 5% share of the 3.2 million car market in India.
