Govt panel powerless, no talks with it: Malik

ROHTAK: All India Jat Arakshan Sangharsh Samiti (AIJASS) chief Yashpal Malik on Friday refused to hold any further talks with the five-member panel formed by the state government, claiming that it had no powers to agree to their demands.

Malik, who has been leading the Jat agitation in 20 districts of Haryana for the past 27 days, said their talks with the government have failed twice so far because the panel came unprepared both times. The decision was taken in a meeting of the AIJASS core committee at the Jassia dharna on Friday. Talking to the media, Malik alleged that the government was booking Jat youths on false charges so it could save its own ministers.

“There are hundreds of instances where the BJP government has shown a biased approach so it could save its own leaders. In Rohtak, the initial violence happened on the behest of BJP MLA Manish Grover, who was later inducted into the state cabinet so he could be saved from inquiry. No action has been taken against BJP MP Raj Kumar Saini, who left no stone unturned to instigate violence,” Malik said.

With Manohar Lal Khattar refusing to withdraw cases filed under Section 302 and 307 of the IPC, Malik said he was ready to “make peace with this” call if the government makes arrests in violent attacks on Jats during riots as well. “The government must book security forces under Section 302 and 307 for firing at Jat youths without giving any warning. Those were fake encounters conducted by the government to suppress our peaceful agitation,” he added. Malik said the government paid either less or no compensation to Jat victims, “showing that it was working on an antiJat agenda.” “During our talks, we gave proofs of several false cases. In Yamunanagar, Jats have been booked for blocking national highway even when there is no national highway in the district. There are several such false cases,” he said.

The Jat protesters will observe ‘Black Day’ against “government’s harassment” on Sunday, while a “big protest” will be held in Delhi on March 2. Malik issued an apology to mediapersons for “ill-treatment” at the Jat dharna in Jassia village, two days back.

JJS CONVENER SHIFTED TO HOSPITAL

Booked on Thursday for promoting caste-based enmity and spreading false rumours, Jat leader Rahul Dadu, who is leading a parallel protest of the community at Sector 6 here, was shifted to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS) after his health deteriorated late Thursday night.

Dadu has been sitting on a hunger strike along with two other associates from January 31. The police alleged that he was spreading false rumours on social media. Khap heads of Nandal, Hooda and others on Friday night visited Rahul Dadu at PGIMS to inquire about his health. Warning the government, the Khap heads said if the demands of the community were not met within two days, more people will sit on hunger strikes at Jat dharnas.
