KARRA RECENTLY QUIT THE PDP AND JOINED THE CONGRESS

JAMMU : Holding both Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) responsible for the protracted Kashmir unrest last year and the spurt in insurgency this year, PDP founding member Tariq Hamid Karra, on Monday said the PDP will disintegrate due to its own misdeeds.

Karra, a former PDP MP from Srinagar who recently joined Congress, had defeated Farooq Abdullah in the 16th Lok Sabha polls in 2014 for the Srinagar seat—considered a stronghold of the National Conference.

“I quit PDP not for the sake of quitting it but on relevant issues. Last year, the government mishandled Kashmir unrest. Atrocities were unleashed, people were killed, children lost their eyes, hundreds of youth were slapped Public Safety Act (PSA) and jailed — all this was against PDP’s ideology,” Karra said at the Congress headquarters. He further revealed, he kept telling late Mufti Mohammed Sayeed and then Mehbooba Mufti (CM) to rescind alliance with “fascist forces like BJP”.“I kept telling them that to make up for lost ground — it (Kashmir unrest) is an opportunity for the PDP (to withdraw support to BJP). I tried hard to save my house (PDP) but couldn’t succeed. PDP surrendered before the RSS and BJP agenda,” he said.

Karra further said that after parting ways with the PDP, he had two to three “options” but after a serious thought, he preferred to join Congress, which, at least, has “secular credentials”.
