Phogat sisters are Delhi civic body’s swachh ambassadors
NEW DELHI: The South Delhi Municipal Corporation on Thursday signed up wrestlers Geeta and Babita Phogat as brand ambassadors for its Swachh Bharat Abhiyan drive.
The Phogat sisters will participate in six mega events organised in the next one year to popularise the Swachh concept and highlight the corporation’s initiatives to improve sanitation.
“Ho jaaye do do haath, as the tagline for the Swachhta Mission says, we will inspire the residents to use both their hands to keep their surroundings clean. Unfortunately, my state (Haryana) is not working seriously on this issue, but I am happy to get associated with the cause in Delhi,” said Geeta Phogat. Babita said a sense of fear is essential to achieve anything and there is need to make laws more stringent to get results.
Puneet Goel, SDMC commissioner, said : “They will inspire all, especially the youth, to fight for the cause,” he said. GOOF-UP
The event started more than an hour late as both the sisters were stuck in a traffic jam, said an official.
Commonwealth Games 2010 gold medallist Geeta was mentioned as Olympic gold medallist in the banners at the event venue. When journalists pointed it out, the word ‘Olympics’ was covered with a sheet of paper.
