Fresh snow in HP, chill returns

spell of snow across higher altitudes has brought down temperatur­e in Himachal Pradesh. The temperatur­e decreased by two to three degree Celsius after higher reaches of Shimla, Kinnaur, Kullu received fresh spell of snow.

Meanwhile, lower and middle reaches were lashed with light rains. However, due to snowfall at higher reaches, lower areas were swept by icy winds. Snowfall occurred at Kufri (6cm), Narkanda (8cm) and Kalpa 8 cm.

According to Met department, rain and snow at many places is expected in the next 24-48 hours.

Sky remained overcast from early morning besides little chill in the atmosphere. Vehicular traffic was disrupted for some time due to fresh snow.

In Shimla, rain started around 9am. Soon after, Shimla, Kufri, Narkanda received fresh spell of snow, elating tourists visiting these areas.

The meteorolog­ical department has predicted more snow, rain and hailstorm in days to come. “Due to western disturbanc­e, more rains, snow even hailstorm is expected in the state,” director of Shimla’s meteorolog­ical centre, Manmohan Singh said.

He added that Shimla recorded minimum 4.4 degree C, Kalpa -1.2 degree C, Keylong -5.6 degree C and Manali -0.6 degree C. In last 24 hours, Kothi received 60 cm snowfall, Udaipur 17 cm, Keylong and Kalpa 14 cm each, Manali 6 cm and Khadrala 4 cm.

Manali received 42mm rain, Bhuntar and Seobagh 21mm each, Bajaura 16mm, Tissa and Pachhad 15 mm each, Jubbal 10mm, Banjar 9 mm and Dalhousie 8mm.
