JATS THRONGED THE DHARNA SITE TO CELEBRATE THEIR VICTORY, HIGHWAY BLOCKED FOR 3 HOURS

After reaching an agreement with the state government over the Jat community’s demands, All India Jat Arakshan Sangharsh Samiti (AIJASS) president Yashpal Malik on Tuesday asked his supporters to end the non-cooperation movement, wherein they had stopped paying power, water bills and repayment of loans to press for their demands.

The movement had resulted in huge losses to power discoms in rural areas, where the villagers had stopped paying bills and harassing power employees coming for collections.

Malik made the fresh appeal while addressing a gathering at Jassia village in Rohtak.

However, he once again warned the government that they can call for Delhi protest and Parliament gherao again if their demands were not met.

“The government has agreed to give compensation to those injured in the last year’s (Jat quota) stir within 15 days, and government jobs to kin of the deceased within 60 days,” he said

Malik said they will hold a meeting of the core committee of the All India Jat Arakshan Sangharsh Samiti on March 26 in Jind to take a call on ending dharnas, though the symbolic dharna at Jassia will go on until all their demands are met.

Earlier, a large gathering thronged the dharna spot play- ing loud music as they celebrated ‘Vijay Diwas’ to mark their victory on acceptance of their demands. The Rohtak-Panipat highway had to be shut for three hours due to the heavy rush of protesters and their vehicles blocking the road.
