ROHTAK: The family of slain Border Security Force (BSF) jawan Rai Singh Indora was finally given ₹50-lakh compensation by the Haryana government on Thursday after a wait of over four months.

Indora, 39, was killed in mortar shelling by Pakistan in Rajouri sector of Jammu and Kashmir last year on November 20.

He is survived by his wife Sunita and three school-going children, who were facing a severe financial crisis after losing the sole bread winner of their family.

Hindustan Times had reported earlier this month how the family had been living on credit, borrowing money from their relatives for the payment of school fees of the children and other basic necessities.

Earlier, the family of army jawan Mandeep Singh, who was killed and mutilated in Jammu and Kashmir by militants, had also complained of delayed payment of compensation by the state government and had warned of approaching Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

On Thursday, Haryana cooperative minister Manish Grover visited Indora’s family at his native Kheri Sampla village and gave a cheque for ₹50 lakh.

Grover said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in the state had increased the ex gratia for the families of martyred paramilitary forces to ₹ 50 lakh from ₹20 lakh.
