Video call helps trace girl who fled with starry dreams

NEWDELHI: A screenshot captured during a video call helped trace a 14-year-old girl who had escaped from her home to fulfil her dreams of starring in a music album.

The Delhi girl was fascinated by the film industry and wanted to follow in the footsteps of popular Haryanvi singer Sapna Chaudhary.

A few days ago, she viewed a Youtube video that called out to young women for auditions to star in a music album. She noted down the contact number and address in the video and allegedly left her home on Monday evening. She reached the music company that has its office in Ghaziabad’s Sahibabad and expressed her desire to stand for auditions. “But the people at the office discouraged her saying, she was too young,” said the officer.

As the girl prepared to return home, she came across a Haryanvi singer she had seen on Youtube. The girl requested to be accommodated at the singer’s home for the night. “The singer obliged. The missing girl’s parents, meanwhile, visited us and lodged a complaint,” said the offi- cer. A police team led by Hari Nagar SHO, Rajesh Brar, began a probe in the case. She had checked into the singer’s home in Sahibabad when she decided to make a video call to a neighbour.

Police said the neighbour captured a few screenshots of the call ,” said the officer. “It revealed a TVS Apache in the background. We examined the registration number plate and got the address of the motorcycle owner. A raid at the address was conducted next morning and the child traced to the house where the motorcycle was parked. HTC
