A recently constructed building of a Jamshedpur college has urinals meant for men in a washroom marked for women.

The washroom was originally built for men but is now being used by women.

Professor in-charge of Jamshedpur Cooperative College, SS Razi, said it was an error by the staff concerned.

The washroom is for men and the signboard saying ‘ladies/female washroom’ will be removed, he said, assuring that a washroom for women will be provided soon.

women, we have been using the said washroom in new building,” Sujatha Sahoo, a first-year student, said.

There is a ladies’ washroom in the old building of the college but it cannot be used because of its dilapidated and unhygienic conditions.

Men, having no other option, are using the highly dilapidated washroom in the old building, sources said.

Moreover, the washroom marked for ladies in the new building has no water supply, the students complained.

Puja Ojha, a second-year student, said, “Ladies, including staff and other visitors, use the washroom. However, there is no water in the washroom; hence it is difficult to use.”
