UP govt tells secondary school teachers not to wear jeans, tees
LUCKNOW: The UP government is against teachers of governmentrun secondary schools in Lucknow wearing T-shirts or jeans during work hours.
Umesh Tripathi, district inspector of schools (DIoS), told Hindustan Times that teachers should wear clothes that suited the dignity of the profession.
“Teachers should avoid such clothes that compromise the dignity of the profession,” he said.
Tripathi said the issue would be discussed with higher authorities before further directives. “Presently, it is expected that teachers would avoid casuals like jeans and T-shirts to maintain the dignity of the profession as they are the most respected class of the society,” he said.
Teachers are expected not to talk on mobile phones during work hours and keep school premises neat and clean, and also ensure that pan or pan masala stains inside the schools are cleaned. Prayers in all schools have been made compulsory.
The directives say that teachers should not have pan masala, tobacco, cigarettes or pan during school hours besides ensuring that shops selling such products are not located near schools. If such shops are found, the school administration must work with authorities to shut them down.
Teachers are expected to report to higher authorities and nearby police station any sort of teasing of students.
