Now, Punjab Congress MLA ‘threatens’ police in viral video
TARN TARAN: A day after Punjab minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot was seen fuming at a school principal, another video went viral on Saturday in which Congress MLA Ramanjit Singh Sikki is seen warning police officers to submit to demands of his followers or face consequences.
In video that was reportedly recorded during the Congress’ political conference held to observe Baisakhi on April 13 at Chohla Sahib, a Sikh shrine 25 km from the district headquarters Tarn Taran, Sikki is addressing some deputy superintendent of police (DSP).
“DSP saab, apne SHOs nu keh deuyo ke mera koi vi sathi thane chon naraz ho ke nahi jana chahida. (Dear DSP, tell your SHOs that none of my aides should return disappointed from the police station.) Je mera sathi koi naraz ho ke gaya tan gaddi le ke main thane phunchna. Te eh na hove ke jina nu lambe pauna uhna di jagah pehlan apna hi number lag jave (If any of my aides returns disappointed from a police station, I will have to come there. Be cautious, otherwise you will have to face the consequences before the real culprits).”
The gathering supported his warning by shouting slogans.
It was the first rally by Sikki in the segment after formation of the Congress government.
Following the appearance of the video, the SAD hit out at Sikki. Former finance minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa said that in a direct threat to SHOs, Sikki had announced that if his followers went unheeded, he would himself and teach a befitting lesson to the officer.
He demanded immediate action against the Congress legislator under relevant sections of the law for threatening a government official.
Targetting the Captain Amarinder Singh government in the state, the Dhindsa said there was a complete mismatch in statements emanating from Chandigarh and the actions of Congress functionaries in the field.
On Friday, the CM had banned inclusion of names of government functionaries on foundation stones and inaugural plaques, hours after a video of a minister threatening a government school principal in Nabha went viral on social media.
That video showed cabinet minister Dharamsot threatening with suspension the principal of the school, where he had gone to lay a foundation stone. The minister was apparently upset over his name not being at the top on the inauguration plaque.
