Cong, Akali leaders do sewa at Golden Temple
AMRITSAR: Ten days after being awarded “tankhah” (religious punishment) by the Akal Takht for seeking Dera Sirsa support, 21 Sikh politicians on Wednesday reached the Golden Temple and performed “sewa” outside the shrine.
The leaders gathered at the shrine and started sweeping from Gurdwara Saragarhi to Darshani Deodi (entry gate of the Golden Temple) at 6.30pm. Former cabinet ministers Sikandar Singh Maluka, Parminder Singh Dhindsa and Surjit Singh Rakhra were amongst those performed the “sewa” under the “tankhah” awarded for violating Akal Takht’s hukamnama (2007) which directed Sikh community to boycott Sirsa-based Dera Sacha Sauda.
Speaking to media, Maluka said they would clean and wash the “parikrama” at 2.30am on Thursday.
On Friday, they will polish shoes of devotees. They will do sewa in the Langar Hall for two hours on Saturday, following which they will listen to gurbani kirtan at the sanctum sanctorum.
After donating karah parsad worth ₹501 there, they will also give donation of ₹5,100 each. After this, they will do ardas at the Akal Takht to tender an apology.
Whereas, 18 were “patits” who were asked to do “sewa” at local gurdwaras in their respective areas.
