AJNALA FARMER FINED ₹2,500 FOR BURNING WHEAT STRAW
Authorities on Wednesday slapped a fine of Rs 2,500 on a farmer from Ajnala for burning wheat stubble.
On a tip-off, a team of officials from the district administration, agriculture department and Punjab pollution control board visited the fields of Balraj Singh, a resident of Rajian village, and found that he had indulged in stubble burning.
The farmer had cultivated the field after burning wheat on one acre of land, said officials. Balraj promised that he would never indulge in stubble burning in the future, they added.
Chief agriculture officer Dalbir Singh Chhina said the special task force set up by the Punjab government is keeping tabs on the stubble burning incidents across the state. “The satellite feeds are helping us tremendously by providing real-time info,” he added.
