THE INJURED WERE RUSHED TO CIVIL HOSPITAL IN JIND, FROM WHERE THEY WERE REFERRED TO PGIMS, ROHTAK

ROHTAK: Seven guests, including three women, had to be shifted to hospital on late Sunday night after they suffered splinter injuries due to celebratory firing at a pre-wedding function in Jind.

The police said the incident occurred at a house in Hanuman Gali during the Ladies Sangeet programme organised by the groom’s family a night before his wedding.

During the programme, a guest allegedly fired several rounds of shots in the air, which hit the roof of the house.

The family members and guests who were dancing nearby suffered bullet splinter injuries due to the firing.

The injured were rushed to Civil Hospital in Jind, from

where they were referred to Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS) in Rohtak.

The police said all of them were

out of danger. Jind city station house officer (SHO) Samundar Singh said they have registered a case against Manjeet, though no arrest has been made so far.

“We are presently investigating the case. The accused and family members say the shots were fired accidentally. More will be clear in the investigation,” he said.

The Haryana government had last year banned celebratory firing after a series of events in Haryana and Punjab had led to several casualties.

However, the incidents of celebratory firings have been going unabated in the state.
