YAD leader held for attacking Cong panchayat member
The Mullanpur Dakha police on Monday arrested Youth Akali Dal (YAD) leader Jagwant Singh for assaulting Congress panchayat member Gurjit Singh and his friend Gulbagh Singh following verbal spat in at Issewal village.
A case under Sections 307 (attempt to murder), 452 (house trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint), 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 506 (criminal intimidation), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon), 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against Jagwant and his accomplices.
The aides include Jagroop Singh, Harinder Singh, panchayat member Karamjit Singh, Harminder Singh, Pritpal Singh, Tejwant Singh and Varinder Singh, all residents of Issewal village.
Gurjit, who is admitted to the Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), said on May 5, Jagwant and his friend Gulbagh had a verbal spat over badminton net in a park. They both were called to the police station Sunday. Gurjit alleged that on Sunday morning, when Gulbagh, who was on his way to the police station, reached near his house, Jagwant and his aides attacked him with sharp-edged weapons. “When I rushed to Gulbagh rescue, they also attacked me, leaving me with injuries,” alleged Gurjit.
