PERMISSION WILL HAVE BE TAKEN FOUR DAYS PRIOR TO VISIT; MOVE TO KEEP CHECK ON ATTENDANCE IRREGULARITIES OF PRINCIPALS AND HEADMASTERS IN GOVTRUN SCHOOLS

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana government has applied brakes on school principals’ and headmasters’ frequent visits to the education directorate at Panchkula.

Now, principals, headmasters and other education department officials posted across the state, will have to seek permission “four days in advance” if they want to visit the education directorate.

Alarmed by this new found penchant, especially of the heads of Haryana government schools, visiting the education directorate on the pretext of what officers say “flimsy reasons”, the education department authorities issued strict instructions to curb this practice.

Government sources say that on May 5, the director (secondary education) issued a memo to all district education officers (DEOs), district elementary education officers (DEEOs), block education officers (BEOs), block elementary education officers (BEEOs), principals and headmasters, directing them to shun the practice of visiting Panchkula without prior permission.

“It has been ordered…that all DE0s, DEEOs, BEOs, BEEOs, principals and headmasters of Haryana will take prior permission from the head office at least four days prior to their visit to the directorate,” the memo stated.

A senior government functionary said that principals and headmasters were irregular in attending their schools that affected the teaching atmosphere of the schools.

“Similarly, in the absence of DEOs and BEOs from their offices, the practice of coming late and leaving the office early was rampant among the subordinate staff which needed to be stopped,” an officer said.

These education department officials in question will have to send a request via email, seeking permission to leave their school or office.

The education directorate has asked these employees to follow the orders “strictly”.
