JBT teachers appointed but schools have no vacancies

9,455 Haryana teachers appointed recently are waiting for their postings as govt had already filled most vacancies by roping in guest teachers

YAMUNANAGAR: More than a week after getting the appointment letters, newly appointed junior basic training (JBT) teachers are still waiting for their postings.

Sources in the education department said government schools do not have required vacancies to accommodate all the 9,455 JBT teachers as the government had already appointed guest teachers against most of the vacant posts.

“I got the appointment letter on May 3, but I do not know where I will be appointed. I am still waiting for my posting,” said a newly appointed teacher in Yamunanagar on the condition of anonymity.

“As of now, our attendance is being marked in the office of district elementary education officer,” he added

However, the development can benefit serving JBT teachers who have been waiting for their promotions for several years. To create vacancies for the new JBTs, the government is likely to promote senior JBT teachers to trained graduate teachers (TGTs).

“We cannot remove guest teachers as it will start a new controversy in the state. We will accommodate new teachers by clearing the pending promotions of JBT teachers to TGTs”, said a senior official of the Haryana education department.

He added that the posting of teachers will take some time.

Meanwhile, district elementary education officers are working hard to find out a solution to the problem and make way for the new recruits.

The problem is reportedly more complex in districts such as Yamunanagar, where the number of new JBT recruits is above 1,000. It will be difficult for the education department to accommodate all the newly appointed teachers in the district as the number of vacancies is around 600.

Similarly, In Karnal about 363 new teachers have got appointment letters but the vacancies in district schools are only 260.

For a few months, teachers may also get appointment in nearby districts on provisional basis.

Haryana additional chief secretary (education) PK Das told Hindustan Times, “We have issued directions to all districtlevel officers to provide details of the vacancies and submit proposals for postings of the new JBT teachers. Initially, they will be posted as per the existing vacancies as provisional cadre allotment and adjustments will be done after final cadre allotment.”

However, sources said the delay in postings will not have any impact on the salary of the newly appointed teachers as they will get salary from the day they got the appointment letters.

The BJP government in the state had issued appointment letters to 9,455 JBT teachers, recruited during Bhupinder Singh Hooda-led Congress government in 2014, after the Punjab and Haryana high court vacated stay on their appointment last month.
