A day after being appointed as the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) Punjab president, Bhagwant Mann on Tuesday said he would reach out to party volunteers who were feeling low after the assembly poll results.

The Sangrur MP said he would try to put new life into the party structure once he starts meeting volunteers. “We would change the party structure. Now, we will have district and block presidents instead of zone and sector in-charges. Punjab will be divided into four parts Malwa-1, Malwa-2, Majha and Doaba with each parthaving an organisation head.”

“People in Punjab don’t understand zone and sector in-charge, they understand terminology of presidents, vicepresidents and general secretaries,” he told HT over phone, adding that convener and in-charge system works in Delhi only. “This way, we can give party positions to more volunteers who are actively working for the AAP,” Mann said.

The new state party chief will reach Punjab on Wednesday and will meet the family of Naib Subedar Paramjit Singh, who was killed by the Pakistani army along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch sector of Jammu and Kashmir, at Vein Poin village in Tarn Taran.

Speaking on voices of dissent raised by a section ofNRIs,M ann said they worked hard, took leave from their jobs and travel led to Punjab to support AA Pin the polls but the results dampened their spirits. But everything would be alright with the passage of time, he said, evading all tough queries.

AAP’S UPKARSANDHU MIFFEDOVERMANN’S APPOINTMENT

AMRITSAR: Miffed over Aam Aadmi Party Punjab unit’ s reign being given to Sang ru rM PB ha gwant Mann, senior party leader Upkar Singh Sandhu, on Tuesday, said that it is unfair to make a ‘drunkard’ the state president. He said the decision has exposed the reality of party’s national convener Arvind Kejriwal. Sandhu said that Kejriwal should change the party’ s name to“PP P: Peg Pyala Party.”

Lashing out at the Delhi chief minister, he said, “Kejriwal talked of changing the system but he has given party’s reins to Mann, who is always drunk. I had shared stage with Mann during a campaign for the bypolls and always found him in drunk state. It was difficult for a Amritdhari (baptised) Sikh like me to stand near him. After feeling suffocated, I shirked to share stage with him, making excuses. His security personnel told me that Mann starts drinking early morning and has stock of liquor in his car. How can such person accomplish this big responsibility.”

He said that the party had to face debacle in the assembly elections due to the blunder committed by Kejriwal and other central leaders of closing doors for good leaders. “All were expecting that Bholath MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira will get chosen for the post and Mann’s appointment shocked us. If they do not roll back the decision, I will leave the party,” said Sandhu. He even posted his hard reactions on Facebook.
