Residents of Ramsara village on Tuesday staged a protest outside police post at Guru Gobind Singh Refinery, accusing the police of harassing villagers for raising voice against those troubling local transporters.

“Two villagers were beaten up by the cops on Monday after an altercation broke out between them and a water supplier,” said transporter Jagtar Singh. He alleged police have been harassing people for raising their voice.

Denying allegations, Rama police station house officer Manoj Kumar said a scuffle broke between two and a water supplier and a case has been registered.

The protest was lifted after intervention of police officers.

The police on Monday booked two persons, Harpreet Singhand Gurmeet Singh, under Section 323 (voluntary causing hurt), 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the IPC and the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (prevention) of Atrocities Act on complain to fKewal Singh of Malkana village. The complainant has alleged the accused attacked him on April 25 over a truck union dispute.

Jagtar, however, claimed police acted on the complaint as they had opposed harassment of local transporters.

Jagtar had earlier complained that some persons had seized his truck on April 25, but no action was taken by police. SP, traffic Gurmeet Singh said the truck driver in question told police that he had himself parked the four-wheeler outside the police post.

However, Talwandi SaboD SP Barinder Singh said an inquiry into the matter is on.

THE COMPLAINANT HAS ALLEGED THAT THE ACCUSED ATTACKED HIM ON APRIL 25 OVER A RAMA MANDI TRUCK UNION DISPUTE
