Waste management firms’ work to be reviewed, says Sidhu

CHANDIGARH :Punjab local bodies minister Navjot Singh Sidhu on Friday said an assessment of the work being carried out by solid waste management companies in the state will be carried out and those doing well will be given more such projects.

Sidhu said this while presiding over a meeting with the state’s all 10 municipal corporatio­n commission­ers to review the smooth functionin­g of solid waste management projects.

The need to ensure a clean look of cities and towns was taken up in the meeting.

Sidhu directed the department­al officials that the remedy to this problem must be found before the onset of monsoon and stressed the need to have ultramoder­n super suction machines for the same.

The minister said these machines will be used on priority basis in Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Amritsar, Patiala and Bathinda so that people living

in these cities don’t face any problem.

Addressing the representa­tives of various companies running projects in different clusters, the local bodies and tourism minister said he expected a healthy competitio­n among all firms to provide better services in urban pockets.
