Police, BSF recover 7.8kg heroin from border village
THE BSF AND PUNJAB POLICE DUG OUT THE EIGHT PACKETS OF HEROIN BURIED BY SMUGGLERS NEAR THE BORDER OUT POST AT THAKURPUR
GURDASPUR: In a joint operation by the Punjab Police and the Border Security Force (BSF), 7.8kg heroin, worth ₹40 crore in the international market, was recovered from the border village of Thakurpur under Dorangla police station in Gurdaspur sub-division on Friday.
Gurdaspur sector BSF officiating commandant Gurpal Singh and Gurdaspur senior superintendent of police (SSP) Bhupinderjeet Singh Virk said police had information of smugglers having buried a consignment of 7kg and 830gm heroin wrapped by plastic tape, in eight packets near the Border Out Post of the BSF at Thakurpur and had erected a log as a mark for the spot. They said five Indian currency notes of ₹100 denomination each, including three intact notes and two notes bearing different numbers were also recovered along with the heroin.
The BSF and Punjab Police men were deputed near the spot, to catch the smugglers, but no one turned up. Finally they dug up the heroin, bearing a Pakistani stamp in Persian script (Urdu).
They said the consignment seemed to have come from Pakistani smugglers for their contacts in India.
The border with Pakistan in Gurdaspur district is about 275 km from here. Punjab shares a 553-km barbed-wire fenced border with Pakistan.
