Bus pass scam: Roadways suspends sub-inspector
JALANDHAR: A Punjab roadways department’s sub-inspector working at Depot-2 has been found making money illegally from bus passes. In an inquiry carried out by Punjab Roadways Depot-2, it has come to fore that sub-inspector Ram Ji Das who was in-charge of issuing monthly passes for daily commuters has been bungling money.
Das used to enter different details from the original pass receipt into data register. Works manager BD Jindal, also the investigation officer said, “After cross checking the receipt number 350 and 351, each carry 100 passes, with the amount entered in the register, there was a total difference of ₹30,650.” As per information the receipts 350 and 351 carries the details of the bus passes issued in Jalandhar bus station from April 18 till May 19. The official said they were only able to procure two receipts as Das claimed that the earlier record has been missing from his office since a couple of weeks.
Das has been issuing bus passes here from last two years and was the president of conductor unison. “The amounts that he used to enter in the register were less than the actual revenue generated by the department through bus passes,” said Jindal.
The suspended official who was called to record his statement on Friday said that if any discrepancies are found on his part, he is ready to pay the mentioned amount. General manager Depot-2 Balvinder Singh said, “Suspension order against Das has been passed.”
