KARNAL: In a new political development, former Congress MP Arvind Sharma on Saturday shared dais with senior BJP leader and Haryana cabinet minister Ram Bilas Sharma during a programme organised on the Parsuram Jayanti here.

Arvind, who reached the venue in a car with Ram Bilas Sharma, did not disclose his plans to join the ruling BJP but said, “I have left BSP but will take next decision only after consulting my supporters.”

Later addressing the gathering at the venue, Arvind Sharma praised Ram Bilas Sharma and chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar and said that he will arrange a huge gathering if Amit Shah visits Karnal.

“Most of the chief ministers in Haryana came from Rohtak, Sirsa, Hisar and Bhiwani districts and we had always demanded that the Haryana CM should be from GT road belt. The BJP had respected this sentiment by choosing Manohar Lal Khattar as chief minister,” he said.

“Though BJP contested elections under the leadership of Ram Bilas Sharma, the leader sacrificed and accepted his party’s decision to make Khattar saab the CM,” he added.

“Khattar sahab Karnal aur Panipat (Karnal Lok Sabha constituency) ki jatna bholi bhali hai, isko sambhal lo, fir se CM ban jaoge (The people of Karnal and Panipat are innocent, if you can win their heart, you can become CM again,” he added.

On the question about possibilities about Arvind Sharma joining BJP, Ram Bilas Sharma said, “The entire country is joining BJP, why not Arvind Sharma?”

The three-time MP Arvind Sharma had left Congress and joined BSP ahead of the 2014 assembly elections and BSP supremo Mayawati had declared him as the CM candidate for Haryana.

However, under his leadership, the BSP could win only one seat (Prithla) in the 90-member state assembly. In June last year, he decided to leave BSP but did not disclose his future plans.

NEED TO IMPROVE EDUCATION SYSTEM FURTHER: RAM BILAS

Talking to mediapersons, Ram Bilas Sharma admitted that the state government could not make required development to improve the education system in the state. “Hum utna to nahi kar sake jitna hona chahiye tha par paryas jaari hai (We could not make much impact but efforts are on to improve the education sector,” he said.
