Mini-truck rams into lorry, two children killed

PHAGWARA: Two children were killed and six persons sustained serious injuries when a Mahindra mini-truck collided with a lorry at Chandigarh-Phagwara highway on the intervenin­g night of Saturday.

As per informatio­n, the accident occurred after the Mahindra vehicle, coming from wrong side, was involved in a head on collision with the lorry going towards Phagwara side.

As per sources, 11 people were travelling in the mini-truck during the time of the accident.

Deceased were identified as Kiran, 12 and Pooja ,7.

While the injured have been identified as Usha Devi, Lucky Kumar, Jaipreet Kaur, Santokh Singh, Gurpreet Singh, Seema Devi and deceased Kiran’s father Raj Kumar and his wife Babbi. They all are residents of Ucha Pind Sanghol in Fathegarh Sahib. Eight people have been injured in the accident.

SHO sadar, Lakhbir Singh said,”As per the preliminar­y investigat­ion the accident occurred due to the Mahindra mini-truck driver’s mistake as the driver Mohinder Singh was coming from the wrong side.”

He said that 11 people who were travelling in the Mahindra were going to attend a Radha Soami Satsang in Beas. “Six people are serious and have been referred to Jalandhar civil hospital for treatment. Parents of both the deceased children and family members of victims have been informed,” SHO added.
