Amritsar doc’s kidnapping: Police grope in the dark

AMRITSAR: The cops here are clueless about the gangsters who had allegedly kidnapped a city-based doctor Manish Kumar, 45, and later released him after getting ₹7.5 lakh in ransom from the kin on Thursday late night.
The city as well as the rural police is jointly investigating into the matter.
Although, two kidnappers— Gopy Ghanshyampur and Supreet Harry— had been identified but the police have no information about the whereabouts of their third accomplice.
While speaking to HT, J Elanchezihian, senior superintendent of police (SSP) rural police, said, “Apart from launching a manhunt for both the gangsters, we are trying to trace the third accused. The accused involved are professional gangsters as they have been involved in crimes previously also.”
He said, “We are trying to trace their phone numbers and the calls made from the area at the time of incident.”
“As threat to the victim Manish Kumar still prevails, cops have been deployed to provide security for him and his family, ” added the police official.
The victim who runs private hospital at Ajnala, 20 kms from here, was kidnapped when he was going back to his home from his hospital.
The kidnappers also threatened to kidnap him again if he fails to give ₹60 Lakh by Sunday.
