FAMILY SEEKS PROBE AFTER BODY CREMATED BY INLAWS

-

SBSNAGAR: The body of Gurpreet Kaur, 26, that was found under mysterious circumstances at her workplace in Manurewa, South Auckland, on May 10, was cremated on Friday at Manukau Memorial Gardens there. Gurpreet’s family in Balachaur on Saturday alleged that they were not informed about the cremation by her in-laws and got to know only through relatives in New Zealand.

Kaur’s younger brother Sukhbir, who is pursuing MSc physics from Garhshankar’s Khalsa College, told HT that they received the information from relatives and local Punjabi newspapers. He demanded a fair probe in the case.

“My sister was mentally pressurised and her husband Satwinder was seeking money for extending the Visa there,” Sukhbir alleged.

“Officials from the embassy had revealed that as per the preliminary probe, Gurpreet had committed suicide, but the postmortem report is yet to be received,” said Sukhbir.

We have requested the high commission of India in New Zealand for a speedy probe, he said. However, thay are waiting for their response, he added.

Gurpreet’s employer found her dead at the workplace with injury marks on her neck at 5 pm on May 10. Police officials were called to the scene, and the body was sent for a post-mortem.

The case has been referred to the coroner. Gurpreet was married in 2014 and her husband joined her in New Zealand only six months ago.
