RESULT BETTER THIS TIME: PSEB CHIEF

He said this time the pass percentage is actually 4% more than 2016 and 9% more than 2015 as no grace marks were granted. The marks are the outcome of the actual performance of the students minus the grace marks, he said. The chairman further said percentage in Class 10 examinations was “generally low” because students “take board exams for the first time”.

“The Punjab education department and the school education board are collectively putting in efforts to improve results and the standard of education in schools,” Dhol said, adding that they are just the body that conducts the examination. The Punjab education department does the analysis and after that works upon the areas for improvement, he said.

Ludhiana produced the maximum students in the merit list, 113, and the lowest number of students in the merit list came from Fazilka and SAS Nagar.

The board will also give away cash prizes to toppers in the academic and sports category — ₹1 lakh for the first position, ₹75,000 for the second, and ₹50,000 for the third. All six toppers will be awarded.
