FIR registered against one Rinku after probe

The Amritsar (rural) police have finally registered a case against one Rinku, who was accused of beating up and insulting Dalit Kashmir Singh in Bagga village last month.

Recently the case was taken up by former Akali minister Bikram Majithia with additional director general of police (ADGP) (law and order) Rohit Chowdhary during a public meeting in Majitha on Saturday.

Confirming the registration of case, senior superintendent of police (SSP) Amritsar (rural) J Elanchezian said, “We have registered a case against Rinku and other unidentified persons.”

A case has been registered under Sections 295-A (injuring or defiling place of worship with intent to insult the religion of any class), 341(punishment for wrongful restraint),323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), 3 of SC/ST Act and 66-A of IT Act at the local Mattewal police station.

SSP said that the FIR was registered after a probe by deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Hardev Singh and efforts are being made to nab Rinku.

Sawinder Kaur, wife of Kashmir Singh in her complaint had alleged that the suspect Rinku had beaten up and humiliated her husband by removing his clothes last month.

As the family complained on 181 helpline, the local police instead of helping them further harassed them by keeping Kashmir Singh in illegal confinement. The family also alleged that other family members of the family were also thrashed by suspects. Since the family got no help from the police, the issue was taken up by former minister and now Majitha MLA Bikram Singh Majithia.

Majithia had barged into ADGP meeting on Saturday and demanded justice for the family. He had even threatened that if action is not taken, he will sit on dharna.

The ADGP had there only ordered the DSP to investigate into the matter and submit a report. Notably, state SC Commission had also taken a note of the incident starting a probe into the matter.
