AJMER/CHANDIGARH: Three people were arrested and the head constable of Nasirabad police station transferred in connection with an incident where four Sikh men were thrashed by mob on April 24.

The incident had come to light after a video went viral earlier this week.

Those arrested include Ramdev Rawat, the sarpanch of Rajgarh panchayat of which Chainpura village is a part.

The incident reportedly took place at Chainpura village.

The other two arrested accused are Srawan Singh and Raju, both residents of the same village.

“Head constable Buddha Ram has been sent to the police lines,” Ajmer superintendent of police Rajendra Singh said.

“I have also ordered an inquiry into the role of police to ascertain if there were any lapses while handling the incident,” Singh added.

Four Sikh men, Niramal Singh, Malkeet Singh, Kuldeep Singh and Harpal Singh, all sewadars of a gurdwara in Khairthal in Alwar were allegedly abused and thrashed by a mob alleging that they had molested some women.

CAPT SPEAKS TO RAJASTHAN CM

Earlier, Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh spoke to his Rajasthan counterpart Vasundhara Raje Scindia and sought her intervention to ensure a probe into the alleged assault on Sikh men by a crowd in Ajmer.

“Do ensure a thorough probe into the incident of mob violence and initiate stringent action against the constable who alleged to have abetted the crowd,” he asked the Rajasthan chief minister during a telephonic conversation.

Amarinder also asked her to direct the police to take immediate steps to prevent recurrence of such incidents, which could escalate if not curbed through strong and prompt action by the police.

The Punjab chief minister said he was shocked at reports of a constable, who reached the spot, not only failing to save the victims but in fact instigating the crowd to “teach them a lesson”.

A video, purportedly shot on April 24, surfaced a couple of days back showing a crowd dragging four Sikh men, sewadars from a gurdwara in Rajasthan’s Alwar, out of a vehicle and thrashing them at Rajgarh village in Ajmer district when they had stopped there for collecting donations.
