Overall pass percentage up, girls outdo boys again

PANCHKULA Girls outdid boys in overall percentage terms from the Panchkula region comprising Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir and Chandigarh in the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE)’s Class-12 examination, the results of which were declared on Sunday.

While girls have a pass percentage of 89.6, the figure for their male counterparts is 79.4. Of the 1,70,887 lakh students who appeared in the examination from the region, 1,43,087 got through with an overall percentage of 83.7.

As many as 72,772 girls appeared in the exam, of whom 65,185 passed. Their pass percentage is marginally better than the last year’s 88.92.

A total of 98,115 boys appeared in the exam, of whom 77,902 got through. Their pass percentage is also better than the last year’s (78.59).

REGION BAGS FIFTH RANK

The region’s overall 83.7 pass percentage is better than the national average of 82.05 but it is nowhere near the top three regions at the national level. Last year, the region had 82.97 pass percentage. The region is at fifth spot after Thiruvananthapuram (95.62%), Chennai (92.60%), Delhi (88.37%) and Ajmer (84.69%).

PRIVATE SCHOOLS FARE BETTER

Private schools again fared better than their government counterparts with an overall pass percentage of 84.

The government schools’ pass percentage is 74.

Girls studying at private schools have a pass percentage of 90 as compared to 77 in government schools.
