Amritsar boy bags second spot
AMRITSAR: Anmol Sher Singh Bedi, son of an educator, made Amritsar proud by grabbing the 2nd rank in the civil services examination.
As soon as the result was out on Wednesday, congratulatory calls poured in for Anmol, 23, a computer engineer, who achieved the feat in the first attempt. “This is a dream come true. Since my childhood, I have aimed to be a bureaucrat,” quipped Anmol.
Anmol’s father Dr Sarabjit Singh Bedi is an educationist and his mother Jassi Bedi is associated with an NGO. The boy gives credit to his family, especially his sister Gursimran Kaur Bedi, for his stupendous performance. “They were the guiding lights,” he added. Anmol said he will go for the Indian Foreign Services. ”India is growing by leaps and bounds. I want to play a pivotal role in it,” he added.
The boy said he used to study around eight hours a day. “I didn’t stick to any particular strategy. I just remained consistent,” he said. Anmol said he never let his motivation level come down. “Even low scores at times during school days didn’t bog me down,” he added.
KASHMIR’S BILAL BHAT IN TOP 10
NEWDELHI: Bilal Mohiuddin Bhat, a Kashmiri man, secured 10th position in the exam. In his last attempt, he was selected for the Indian Forest Service (IFS). “Words can hardly describe my feelings. I feel on top of the world today. I believed in this quote -Try, try, try again. I have been trying from 2010,” Bhat said. This was his last chance to get into the IAS as he would have crossed the cut-off age of 32 in November this year. Bhat hails from Handwara in the Valley and completed his schooling and college from Srinagar before studying veterinary sciences in Jammu.

KURUKSHETRA: Tejasvi Rana of Kurukshetra has secured 12th rank in the civil services examination, results of which were declared by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on Wednesday.
“My parents gave me all support to achieve my target and my success is the result of their efforts,” says Tejasvi whose father Dr Kuldeep Rana is professor of economics in Kurukshetra University and mother Dr Sarita Rana is associate professor of commerce in University College at Kurukshetra.
Talking to Hindustan Times, Tejasvi said, “For the past one year when I was preparing for the exam, my parents provided me all help I required.”
She said that she did not take any coaching for the exam and prepared by herself.
Tejasvi, a BS (economics) from IIT Kanpur, said, “I wanted to serve the country as an IAS officer. It’s a dream come true for me.” Regarding her preparations, she said, “I worked hard and spent 8 to 10 hours every day for the preparations. But I was not expecting to get 12th position.”
About her future plans, she said, “In the coming days, India will be going far ahead in development. Administration and officers play a big role in this and I will give my best to see my country progress.”
Tejsavi’s father Kuldeep Rana said, “I am very happy with the achievement of my daughter and I am sure that one day she will prove to be an asset for the country.”
Tejsavi did her schooling from DAV School, Kurukshetra, and in Class 10 she topped the district with 97% marks.
CITY DOCTOR IMPROVES HIS RANK
Meanwhile, Dr Prasant Jilova of Kurukshetra has secured 108th rank in the UPSC exam. His father Dr Chand Jilova told HT that Prashant has completed his MBBS and is under training. He appeared in the exam last year also and got 812nd rank.
