CHENNAI: Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi held the Narendra Modi government guilty of mishandling Kashmir affairs and said his party will continue to oppose the BJP’s plan to thrust their idea of India. In Chennai, Gandhi revealed he had “warned” defence minister Arun Jaitley months ago that the Centre is heading towards “setting Kashmir on fire.”

NEW DELHI: Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Sunday said he is studying Upanishads and the Bhagwad Gita to counter the RSS and BJP’s brand of Hindutva politics.

“Nowadays, I am studying Upanishads and the Gita since I am fighting the RSS and BJP,” he told party workers in Chennai . There, he even quoted sermons from Upanishads to question the RSS.

“I ask them (RSS), my friend, you are oppressing people. But Upanishads say all people are same, How come you are contradicting what your own religion says?” party sources quoted him as saying.

As he slammed Narendra Modi government for “mishandling Kashmir affairs”, he alleged that BJP does not “understand India” but only “understands Nagpur”.

Gandhi also revealed he had “warned” defence minister Arun Jaitley months ago that the Centre is heading towards “setting Kashmir on fire.”

“Around six, seven months ago, Mr Arun Jaitley came to see me and I told him that they are mishandling Kashmir and they are going to set Kashmir on fire,” a news agency quoted the Congress vice-president.

Accusing the Modi-led Centre of “mishandling” Kashmir, Gandhi quipped, “Kashmir is India’s strength and they are making it India’s weakness.”
