ANANDPUR SAHIB: Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Kirpal Singh Badungar on Sunday said Akal Takht jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh would deliver a message to the Sikhs on the anniversary of Operation Bluestar on June 6.

Badungar, who was here to launch an FM community radio station at Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Khalsa College, was reacting to reported statements of some radical Sikh organisations that Giani Gurbachan Singh would not be allowed to deliver his message. He said, “A human being might have a disagreement with other human being but not with any institution. It is the duty of the entire Sikh Panth to show unity in observing the ‘Ghallughara Divas’ and remember the martyrs.” Notably, jathedar Dhian Singh Mand, who was appointed parallel acting Jathedar of the Akal Takht by the radicals, is also slated to deliver a message from the supreme temporal seat of the Sikhs on June 6.

In reply to a question, Badungar said that the SGPC would conduct an enquiry into the allegations that former minister and Shirmani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Sikander Singh Maluka had started his speech after stopping ‘Rehras Sahib’ path midway at Dirba mandi recently.

He strongly condemned the printing of Sikh symbol ‘Khanda’ on footwear in Malaysia and said he would urge the Centre to take up the issue with the Malaysian government.

Badungar said the FM community radio station at Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Khalsa College here would prove to be a milestone for the region and people living within a radius of 40 km of Anandpur Sahib would be able to tune into the radio.
