AMRITSAR: Ahead of the 33rd anniversary of Operation Bluestar to be held on June 6, former deputy chief minister (CM) Sukhbir Badal visited the Damdami Taksal headquarters at Chowk Mehta here on Sunday.

“Congress government will be responsible for trouble, if any at Akal Takht during the anniversary. Sukhbir was accompanied by former revenue minister Bikram Majithia and other Akali leaders during the meeting with the Taksal chief Harnam Singh Dumma. Badal was also honoured by Dhumma during the visit. Sukhbir said, “Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) is making all arrangements to ensure a peaceful atmosphere at Akal Takht on June 6 ,but the parallel Jathedars have backing of Congress, which can create trouble.” “We want that the June 6 function goes peacefully and nobody violates the ‘maryada’ of the place,’ he said.

The former deputy CM said, “The government should keep a close eye on elements who can create a trouble and act accordingly.” He also said that as per the tradition only Akal Takht jathedar can give ‘sandesh’ and nobody else.

On being asked about his visit to the Taksal, Badal said, “Earlier also I had visited here and it is not in accordance with Operation Bluestar anniversary adding he was around so he came to pay obeisance.

Sukhbir criticised the Congress and said, “The state government has lost ground in just two months.” Damdami Taksal head Harnam Singh Dhumma said, “The extra security deployment before the anniversary is just creating panic among people.”
