TRUMP’S JOLT TO PARIS ACCORD
The US move to pull out of Paris climate agreement is not a prudent, but a selfish decision which may ultimate boomerang. Mr Trump, if world perishes or becomes unhealthy for living beings what is the benefit of protecting your jobs? Secondly, America spends huge money to protect its ‘super power’ status, then why is it not concerned about its future generations? India too needs to act promptly on environmental issues and take some hard decisions such as phasing out personal diesel-run vehicles and only allowing petrol/CNG vehicles in this segment. The US withdrawal from the climate agreement is not something unexpected. This only shows that what is important for this country is only its own vested interests and it is not bothered about what is good for others. As other countries may also follow suit, the US exit will greatly hamper the fight against global warning. At this juncture, other member countries must stick together and find ways and means to offset the US and other countries’ exit and make efforts for the protection of the environment without any let-up.
Tarsem Singh, Mahilpur It was disheartening to read about the US president withdrawing his country from the climate pact and slamming India. Saving climate is never a “propaganda of sorts” as so eloquently claimed but the moral responsibility of every person. Global warming is at its peak and the world needs to grow together and save the planet. It is highly unethical of Trump to have taken such a biased decision. With negotiations still possible, I feel all other countries should hold effectivecommunication in this respect and try to get the US back into the pact for a better planet. Ajay Pal Singh
